Default Transmission Slipping

We have a '96 Honda Accord LX 4 cyclinder the transmission keeps
slipping any ideas on quick fixes, would it be beneficial the change
the transmission filter and fluid. Or does it sound more serious??

Thanks

Well, your Honda filter isn't easily serviceable like on traditional
automatics. The first best thing would be to check the fluid level
and condition. Look in your owner's manual in the chapter regarding
do it yourself maintenance operations and you will find some text and
illustration on how to check the unique Honda trans dipstick. It
unthreads from the case kind of like a gas cap and has a small
dipstick attached.

If you determine that the level is low, top off using only Honda ATF
-- or just go ahead and drain/fill the transaxle. Do not use Dexron
III as shift quality will become harsh. To answer your other
question, yes it does sound serious, but eliminate the simple first
before panicking.
