Default Motor Control System Failure...!!!

Hi all.
Just been driving home (147 1.6 2001), and I noticed the handbrake light
and two others (didn't really pay any attention) were lit.... Also the
speedometer was at zero, despite me doing about 40 mph.

Pulled over, restarted, and then I get "Motor Control System failure"
come up...

The car is about 1000 miles short of its 36,000 service...

any ideas whats wrong anyone? should I start looking at mortgages?!

thanks

Charlie
