I don't think there is any truth to the 5-speed thing. I drove one last
week that was a loaded GT with a manual transmission. It was a blast to
drive. My guess is they are just trying to push the inventory they have
so they can make more $$$$.

For the most part,American cars back in the 60's had a factory 12 month/12,000
warranty.

if you dont like it, bitch to Ford and see if you can make them change it!
Bitching to us won't help any.

| A 2yr lease would be the ticket... if it was available.

| The new mustang doesn't amount to much with such a cheap warranty.

It's marketing. If your car sucks you offer a longer warranty to get
people to take the risk for instance. If you sell a very expensive car,
good coverage is needed to try and set it apart from other people's very
expensive cars. Basically it's about how to sell the car. A mustang
doesn't need anything more than that to sell. Odds are few extra buyers
would be found with a longer one. A shorter one would start to scare them
away.

Anyway, even if the manufacturer pays for it, it still sucks when it
breaks, so I'd rather have a good car with a 10k mile warranty than bad
one with a 100K mile one.

I've sat in and shifted a 5 speed GT. My friend wouldn't let me drive it,
but it sounds nice.

Then don't finance through the dealer; Talk to a bank or credit union.

Besides which, if you really *want* an extended warranty, there is
nothing stopping you from paying extra and getting one.

I put 306,000 miles on my 86 GT convertible and had no problems. The
new warranty is better than the old one and with the Mustang you are not
going to need it anyway...
