It sounds like you are a car person. Subaru makes great AWD cars so you
probably can't go wrong with a Forester. You might also want to take a look at the Jeep Liberty, it's about as car-like as Jeep currently makes but it handles nicely, gets about 20 mpg, and is much roomier inside than it looks from the outside, the price isn't bad either. It seems as though you want fulltime 4WD, the Jeep Liberty has that option but you'll want to make sure it has it if you decide on one.
