Default Spitfire Stromberg too rich

I have a '79 Spitfire 1500 with a ZZ150 CD carb. I get heavy dry
carbon deposit on the plugs and black smoke at idle out the tail pipes.
I just got the Guston Colortune and was giving that a shot. I have
the fuel/air mixutre as lean as it will go (using that special tool).
It does not seem to make any difference. I am still running too rich
and cannot get the blue flame at all at idle with the Colortune. When
I lift the piston with my finger a touch, I get the blue flame I am
looking for, but I don't have anymore turns left on the needle to make
it leaner. Any ideas?

thicker needle? Make sure the seat is at it's highest height.
I don't know how the choke works on the ZZ150 but I've had
the choke stick on SU clones (hitachi) w/the seat lower than
it should be...
