But can we buy an imported one without CAW/UAW parts in it? I don't like to
support those who will steal from my family via taxes. Or is our right to
choose being hampered? A form of corruption and market rigging for loosers
like GM?

Heck, even with $3500 off, I wouldn't want a vehicle assembled in the midst
of part shortages, labour disputes, fixed at the dealer... besides a
relative just had the notoriusly common manifold issue and found out their
GM needs $1600 to fix, out of warranty of course. Once they fix/sell it, no
more GMs left in the family. LOL.

little less slant:

"In the case of cars, the rebate will apply if the old vehicle achieves
less than 18 miles per gallon and the new one is rated at a minimum of
22 miles per gallon. The maximum rebate will apply if the fuel
efficiency of the new car is at least 10 miles per gallon higher than
the old one."

my 20-year old civic auto has a 32+ mpg average over the last 4 years,
including some ignition and temp sensor problems and a bunch of high
speed freeway stuff. recent average mileage is in the high 35's. there
aren't many "new" cars going to better than that in real world mileage,
and certainly not by 10mpg.

You're lucky. In Ontario, any car built after 1988 has to be emission
tested. It used to be 20 years and older were exempt, but they changed that
a couple of years ago. Damned crooks. Thing is too that my '82 Trans Am
passes emission tests with flying colors.

Or don't vote for them. Or better yet, recall them. For example, a senator
for say Montana benefits not at all with the auto pork, so if they support
it recall them. But it is kind of stupid for a lower paid non-union no
pension worker in Montana to pay for auto-pork. Not very good
representation if you ask me. Might want to ask the senator how much they
got paid under the table to support it.

Sounds to me like another way to pork money into corrupt auto none the less.
Can't get the pork through the front door, try the side.

Still going to cost the taxpayer plenty.
