Default Steering wheel wobble at 50 MPH in 2002 A6 Quattro

Hello,

I have been trying in vain for nearly 18 months now to resolve a
steering wheel wobble problem on a 2002 A6 2.7T Quattro. The wheel
never wobbles below 45 MPH or above 55 MPH. At 50 MPH the wheel will
wobble back and forth by as much as a half inch in each direction,
then stop and be solid as a rock for 30 seconds then start wobbling
again. There seems to be no consistent correlation with road surface
either. What has been tried so far:

1) Brand New tires (3 different sets)
2) Brand New wheels (2 different sets)
3) Alignment (10+ times)
4) Wheel balancing (20+ times by 5 different shops)
5) New tie rod ends, ball joints and wheel bearings
6) New steering rack

None of these things has made the slightest bit of difference and
every mechanic agrees that they can see the problem, but cannot for
the life of themselves figure out what is causing it.

Someone please HELP!

you don't mention clocking the discs (rotors)........

wheel balancing on the hubs might be the only answer.

Couple of ideas to check:
- Wheel bearings
- Engine or trans mounts

And shock absorbers?
