You have to go see this. 1963 coupe, and a HONEST seller.

Well, something happened, because eBay has pulled the listing. Wonder
what's up with that?

I just looked, and it is still up. It may have been one of those ebay
things where they drop servers for awhile. I've seen things drop off that
weren't scams and such and then reappear the next day. I think they rotate
stuff based on auction ending times so that if they interrupt an auction, it
isn't near the end so they don't have to refund money or extend the time.
And I ran into a couple of auctions that the time extended. Really screws
up your bidding plan when you make plans to be there at the end, and then
find it has extended from 10 o'clock to 3 in the morning.

He has only 21 questions up, but he must have had a lot more. I've heard
from a couple of guys directly on this who asked him questions and never got
answered or posted.

I bet he is up to his mailbox limit in mail about now.

I did some thinking about it. Really the frame is supposed to be solid. A
midyear frame can go for $3000 or more. You have a title and a good VIN and
trim tag. If you have a car with a funny title, or lack of one, and a
rusted out frame, then here is a ticket in. Plus you have a solid body to
sell or maybe your car needed a front end.

A good original white glass '63 front end with no repairs could easily pull
$3000 in the right places. Rear window glass on a '63 could hit $500-$1000
depending on clear or tint.

Then all the other parts, which there could be a lot more than you'd think.

Nearly $9000 sounds insane, but if you had a need, it could be a decent
deal.

And if you were shady, it could be a steal of a deal. An illegit car could
be legit and that would be the best $9000 you ever spent.

With all the bodies being sold, and most are without paperwork, it becomes a
big deal in more places than you'd think. A lot of these cars with no VIN
plates and no papers are often not stolen, but insurance totals from the
'60s, and '70s when they snatched the VIN plate and left the car in the
scrap yard. As Corvette mania grew, these were purchased out of junkyards
for restoration or for parts. We all know stories of cars sitting where the
guy is "going to restore it as soon as I get the time" and so cars were
purchased and nothing done.

Now we have salvage titles and junking titles and all sorts of things so
that cars always have paperwork, but back then, they didn't. Also, if you
bought a car with a salvage title, a real stigma, for $9000 you could
"clean" the car and have one no one is upset about.

And the Barrett Jackson auctions haven't hurt the prices from a seller's
standpoint. There are going to be a lot of buyers hurting though when it
all falls again. The B-J auctions end in a couple of months and odds are
prices will drop. The $50,000 today cars will probably drop only to the mid
$40s, but the $150,000 and so on cars are going to have a heavy hit
percentage wise.

But in the meantime, a $9000 investment on a $40,000 car with a salvage
title to turn it into a $70,000 car is a heck of a deal.

I bet you see this green body show up again in 6 months sans paperwork. Or
you will see this complete car show up next January as an original, restored
low mile car.

Still seems like a little more then the car is worth....BUT it would
make one hell of a Vette-Rod... throw that body onto a tubular
aftermark frame...complete with modern running gear and you could have
one hell of a car....

I have a friend doing this with a 62... the only original parts are
the body... It is almost done and will be one hell of a car.... He has
a nice 63 s/w (original except for the engine) that he has been FORCED
to drive the last 10 years (not quite but he said it seems like it)
while playing with the 62....

Just my opinion....
