I see a 2000 Jetta TDI GL for sale, 345K on it. Timing belt and Turbo
done 25K ago apparently. for $1800. Recent clutch. Can one of these
do another 100k without major repair?

If you want to get a book and work on your car. Buy it. Otherwise. That
series on VW is the worst they ever made. So Probably not.

Let me ask you another question. Is the car $1800? . Or is that the
price it cost to replace the timing belt and turbo.

Think about that. And decide accordingly.

If you cant work on it. Everytime its in the shop. You better have $500-
$1000 to buy your car back.

Thanks for the replies. I do work on my car but I don't tear down
engines or replace transmissions. 1800 is selling price, I know the
work done must have cost more... TDIClub noted. I'll ask about the
timing belt.
Thanks

Ignore DogDiesel. Come on over to www.TDIClub.com and get
some proper advice. Plenty of TDIs are over 300,000 miles and still
going. The site also has a list of known TDI gurus who can work on
them and give you an evaluation.
The critical question I'd have is: Who did the timing belt?
TDI timing belts are persnickety to do correctly and need to be done
by who knows how to work on them. Certain procedures must be followed
and proper tools to lock down the cam and pump must be used. Most "VW
shops" and "diesel specialists" don't do them correctly. Dealers
generally don't do them correctly either, believe it or not.
