Default NYC Parking Ticket, Out-of-State Vehicle

I just got a $95 parking ticket in NYC. I don't live in the state of
New York and my car has a non-NY license plate. Someone at work told me
that NYC is the only place in the USA where they will not transfer your
ticket to where you live because of lack of resources.
Can anyone confirm that? Can I trust not to get a double fee if my car
has an out of state plate and I don't live in NY?

Thanks!

You will be able to confirm it yourself in a few months...

Just out of curiosity, did you actually park illegally?

Be that as it may, if you want official advise, you should at least
check the NYS DMV's web site to see if you can find any information
on this question.

And if you parked illegally, you should pay the fine.

Default NYC Parking Ticket, Out-of-State Vehicle

I live in CT and received a completely bogus parking ticket in NYC over
a year ago. I got a notice in the mail in Dec-04 for an unpaid ticket
for double parking in Oct-04, which came as a surprise to me since I
have never double parked in my life and on the day in question the only
time I got out of my car was at a gas station. I filled out an online
form explaining why I was not guilty - I couldn't question any of the
information on the ticket because I never even got one in the first
place. They sent another notice knocking off the $25 late fee but
still asking for $115. It included another protest form to fill out,
which I did and mailed in. I get another notice, more late fees, I
fill out the included forms again. A couple months later I get another
notice, with a late fee and the "court date" at which the "guilty
decision" was rendered.

I called the phone number to find out about the court date that I was
never told about and the guy explained that it's not something
requiring an appearance, that date was just went the guilty decision
was processed. I told him about all the forms - he gave the honest
answer that there is no way to ever get something reversed and those
forms that are included in every letter only apply for the first time.
My filling them out was irrelevant and a waste of time, they don't even
get read.

Every couple months I get another notice telling me that the Sheriff of
NYC can garnish my wages, seize my car, etc. The one that came lsat
week said the following:
FINAL NOTICE OF IMPENDING LEVY

You have failed to respond to our previous notice.....
The current judgment due is $181.38
The office of the sheriff is authorized to take the following
enforcement actions where applicable by law:
GARNISHMENT OF YOUR NONEXEMPT WAGES
SEIZURE OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS
SEIZURE AND SALE AT PUBLIUC AUCTION OF YOUR MOTOR VEHICLE(S) AND OTHER
NON-EXEMPT PERSONAL AND REAL PROPERTY

Failure to make prompt and full payment may result in this matter being
referred for immediate legal action in your locality.
and a bunch of other stuff.

I live and work in CT. This ticket was so bogus - in my opinion it was
written by someone with a quota to fill who saw my out of state plate
on a BMW and figured what the hell - that I will never pay it. I don't
believe that NY has any right to enforce their threats but we shall
see. It is now almost 14 months since the original ticket date.
