Land Rover Series 3 Clutch
Recently I replaced the clutch on my 74 series 3. Virtually
everything was replaced: clutch assembly, driven plate, slave cylinder, etc. Initially, after bleeding, the clutch was quite close to the floor, but seemed to function fine, there was no spinning transmission with the clutch depressed and there was no slipping. However, after about 200 miles, the clutch abruptly became as hard as a rock at the top of the pedal stroke and I was unable to depress the pedal at all. And the clutch was disengaged, as if the pedal were depressed. I received various forms of advice, that it needed bleeding, that there was some blockage in some hydraulic line, etc. I removed the clutch line from the slave cylinder and nothing happened, other than some fluid running out. I decided to remove the slave cylinder and upon giving the first bolt about 1/4 turn, there was a snap and a big shot of fluid and the clutch released. I think that I could probably just tighten everything up and be on my way, but I would like to avoid a repeat of this problem. Has anyone had a similar experience? thanks bc |
