Mass Air Flow sensor: Removing Restrictor to increase power
There is a metal piece inside the Mass air flow sensor (MAF) on my 1993
Audi 90 CS; it has two screws. As anyone unscrewed the two screws and removed this metal piece to allow more air into the engine? Is it safe enough to do in order to get more power? |

.... or is this an air sampling chamber and there is no advantage to
removing it and possibly you'd get a weird idle from removing it?? |

Mass Air Flow sensor: Removing Restrictor to increase power
This reminds me of what we used to do with our cars that had a
traditional air cleaner - the big round one that sat on top of the carb - back in the day - we would flip the top upside down, which would create a space around the entire circumference of the air cleaner that would allow much more air into the carb while still sealing against the top of the filter element. It would also make a cool roar when you really nailed the gas...... For a reason lost in my memory banks, we called it 'The Bonzo Ward Memorial Flip the Air Cleaner Trick'.... Mass Air Flow sensor: Removing Restrictor to increase power
Oh yeahhhh.... still can hear the echoes from the 'ole man's 1976
Oldsmobile 88 with the 455 Rocket engine's breather lid flipped.... Lord, doesn't that convert to about 7.45L of displacement????? All for a paltry emission-choked 190bHp.... Glory Days indeed. K.
