iRacing free one month "demos" for GPL & NR2003 fans
At last you can get to try iRacing for free!
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?not...1125479&ref=mf Rather than the basic content you get a choice of driving the Skip Barber around VIR (an excellent combination IMHO) or the Late Models around Martinsville Speedway - something that should appeal to GPL & NR2003 fans respectively. Like most trial subscriptions the first month is free and you will need to cancel your monthly subscription. This is clearly marked but for the avoidance of doubt I mention it here! Cheers Tony |

Of course you don't *have* to be a GPl or NR2003 fan to enjoy these...

> Skip Barber ... GPL
I don't think fans of GPL would like the Skip Barber. The most memorable part of learning to drive GPL was using lift throttle oversteer to control the car from corner entry to apex. One of the early lessons in GPL was to switch to an 85/45/x differential to learn how to use lift throttle oversteer. The Skip Barber punishes you for trying to do the same thing (I don't know if left foot braking would help with the Skippy). The Radical on the other hand, seems very happy using lift throttle oversteer, combined with the other GPL technique of induced understeer (steering inwards to control oversteer), producing some nice drifts in the turns, producing a feel similar to GPL. iRacing Radical at SilverStone, some drifting about 1/3rd into the lap: http://jeffareid.net/ir/irssrad.wmv GPL (Greg Stewart at Rouen, in car view over chase car view): http://jeffareid.net/gpl/gplrngs.wmv |

Plenty of people loved the GPL trainers and they will love the Skippy too.

The Skip Barber is the closest thing to GPL2 albeit an F3 trainer variant IMHO. Trailing throttle oversteer (TTO) is a trade mark of the real car and the iRacing variant is no different. Sorry I was thinking of the Ford Spec Racer, which doesn't have lift throttle oversteer, just lift throttle spin, although Ian Lakes setup seems to calm it down a bit. Why aren't the default setups for these cars made to make them easy to drive, since they're intended for new players? The advanced players can then tweak the setups for faster laps, but more difficulty. |
