They make commonly replaced items easy to get at so anyone with the desire can do the work instead of paying to have it done. I remember how time consuming it was to replace the brake lights on the Ford Taurus. It involved taking out a whole inner back panel, which of course was in as tight as could be (no complaint, car was so tight there were zero shake or rattle noises anywhere), and covered with tightly fitting carpeting, also screwed down on top.
