Default What is this button

Hi all,

I saw this 4wd Mazda Bongo Van (not the camper). It has a push button
on the dash with an engine marked on it. When U press it, U get a
similar looking idicator light coming up. If I describe the icon on
the button, its exactly like the "check engine" light (amber in
color), but it has some smoking like marks inside the engine. It
actually gives U the impression that "engine is smoking or hot"

Any one has come across this kind of a switch. Is it engine breaks or
something ? But why does anyone wants engine breaks on a 8 seater van.

Thanks in advance,
Harshana

Thanks for the reply Scotty,

Is it normal to have a pre-heater on vehicles ? then how do they work?
How and where does the heating occure ? fuel ? oil ? This van is a
2.2l diesel, it already has heaters for starting and it has an
electronic diesel pump.

Anyone has any idea ?

Thanks
Harshana
