Ontario Canada New Years Bush Run Report

It was a wet one.....

We were in 4x4 for the whole 4-5 hour trip out to the trail head on
Saturday, New Years Eve. It was snowing steady with tons of cars in the
ditches all over the place. I mean I am cruising along at a nice 55 mph
and these fools are just whipping on by me. Most folks were smart
enough to just follow the 4x4's rather than pass them but wow. The cops
reported clocking one fool at 150 kph before he did somersaults in the
ditch....

I was smart and got the hard doors on with the hard top before we left
so we had tons of heat inside. That GM blower upgrade for the CJ7's is
wicked! Don't need gloves, hat or boots on or even to have the coat
done up. You just have to watch the feet. They get too hot and damp
then when you get out you can freeze them fast. We learned to have dry
socks and boots waiting for the end of the trip after the first
freeze....

The area was busy with snowmobilers in most of the hunt camps. We got
lucky and the CJ7 chewed it's way back into one cabin that was empty off
the beaten track. The sledders followed my tracks the next day though
so they now know where this camp is too. grr.... Oh well, the area was
nice for a few years....

The weather got warm and foggy which didn't make for good photos or solo
wheeling. The snow was really heavy and the poor old CJ7 had to really
work at chewing through it so we mostly stayed by the nice hot fire. I
got a few photos though. I took some shots of animal tracks, fox after
mice and wolf tracks following a deer trail. I also got a few winter

I got a folding Coleman oven for Christmas and had some fun with that.
Made up some shortbread cookies for a first try and they turned out
perfect. I even dipped the corners in chocolate. Made some chocolate
chip cookies another night. We had a lamb shoulder roast with roast
potatoes and asparagus for New Yeas Day dinner and had some live
lobsters along to cook for New Years Eve. Not bad for just cooking on a
Coleman camp stove.

I don't know why it is, but I never manage to get photos when all hell
is breaking loose. We came head on into a couple big logging trucks on
the 2 track and had to back 3/4 the way around a lake to get to a place
I could pull the CJ7 off safely. It was too soft and swampy to just
ditch it.

Then a couple miles farther on we ran into a drunk logging company
repair man in a pickup truck with a couple skidder tires on back and
that SOB ran us right off the road. This was on a 2 lane plowed road
almost at the highway! So I am hooked with 2 wheels off the edge that
looked flat but no bottom and I am getting the winch control out when
the drunk comes back to tug me out... He damn near sideswiped me again
as he is backing by and I am tucked into the ditch. Anyway I hooked my
strap to his tow hook and he got me back up onto the road. But, but, he
still has to pass me! LOL! I just stopped in place and let hem fight
his way on buy finally. It was messing up what little brain he had
left. Whew....

So we finally make it to pavement and I asked my wife, oh did you get
any photos off all that??? Nope... neither one of us thought of it.

This was way over at the east trail head to the area. The one dam
(shorter one) is about 6' high. Those beavers are quite the
construction engineers.
