2000 TDI with High Miles
I see a 2000 Jetta TDI GL for sale, 345K on it. Timing belt and Turbo
done 25K ago apparently. for $1800. Recent clutch. Can one of these do another 100k without major repair? Les |

Let me ask you another question. Is the car $1800? . Or is that the price it cost to replace the timing belt and turbo. Think about that. And decide accordingly. If you cant work on it. Everytime its in the shop. You better have $500- $1000 to buy your car back. |

The site also has a list of known TDI gurus who can work on them and give you an evaluation. The critical question I'd have is: Who did the timing belt? TDI timing belts are persnickety to do correctly and need to be done by who knows how to work on them. Certain procedures must be followed and proper tools to lock down the cam and pump must be used. Most "VW shops" and "diesel specialists" don't do them correctly. Dealers generally don't do them correctly either, believe it or not.
