Default C4 cooling

I need some help. 1990 c4, temp is good when driving but when idling
the temp begins to rise and almost overheats. No leaks, replaced all
seals and gaskets, changed thermostat. Water pump appears to be
working but not well, no leaks from weep holes. Is the pump starting
to fail but no symptoms? What do you think? I plan to change the pump
out this week end, I am wondering if I am overlooking something.

Thanks
Joe

Did you bleed the air out of the system?

Mine has a bleeder screw at the front of the engine on the thermostat housing. After you warm it up, put a rag under the area and open it a little and let the air out a few times until air stops coming out and the fluid comes out steady. Some systems have 2 bleeder screws, check your book. I thought mine did, but couldn't find the second one where they said it should be located.

I see what you mean Charlie. My '94 Service Manual (Pg. 6B-27; Fig. 31) shows two, but I suspect it really means they are alternative locations. Mine only has one on the thermostate housing and (this may be stretching) the description says "Air Bleed Valve" not valves plural. Anyway, from the drawing, I can't see why there would be two at that location. The one on the thermostate housing seems to be at the highest point in the system as well.

Thanks,
Chas.

Before you spend any more time and money, what makes you think it is
overheating? A C4 can easily go to 230 when sitting at idle on a hot
day. This is normal.

Dale
Still Corvetteless after 3 months. ARGH!!!

Dale,

Thanks for your reply. I wasn't aware 230 was normal. I thought that
was hot. Why the huge fluctuation in temp when idling?

Thanks

Joe
