Flat Screen Monitor for Games?
I have been looking into a flat screen LCD to get more desk space...
Ih ave a freind who can get me a good deal on an Acer 1912...19" LCD monitor. But the reviews I saw were a little 'ify' on it.... Anybody know anything about this monitor or have any recomendations? I want at least a 17" and would really like a 19" but cost is a serious consideration. TIA |

I have some freinds who have tried some of the better SAMSUNG monitors, they
said the're still a tiny bit of a trade-off... they are slower than monitors for sure (I am NOT as picky as they are), and expensive! for the faster response time ones... biggest hint I was given was contast ratios (clear/clarity of picture) then response times = kind of equates to speed of drawing the pixels your vid card pumps out... if you card pumps out 2 screens refreshes before the monitor can draw them, you going to feel like there is jittery movement you know... tlgtr enlightened us with: > I have been looking into a flat screen LCD to get more desk space... > Ih ave a freind who can get me a good deal on an Acer 1912...19" LCD > monitor. I have owned a Dell 18" 1800FP for about 18 months now. 1280x1024
native resolution. Aside from web surfing, email, taxes, word processing, it is exclusively for gaming. When I got mine, LCD's were really new to the market and concerns were over "Ghosting", due to the "refresh rate" (it's not refresh rate on an LCD,it's response time IIRC). I only play racing sims, GPL, NR2003, F1C, GTR, RBR and now NSR. Never, not once, have I had an issue with my LCD and it's ability to accurately display any of these titles. Knock on wood, no dead pixels eithers. Dell is selling their 20" LCD (1600x1200 res) for around $700 I think, which is about $100 or so more than I paid for mine a year and a half ago. I don't what your pricing requirements are, but I'll bet you can a similar model to mine for $500. They offer lots of other brands as well as the Dell (Look for the "Ultrasharp" tag) models. Dell always has tons of sales and coupon offers, so you be able to "buy up" if you time it right. Hope this helped. Darus |

However, those with responstimes of 110ms or more really ghost when one scrolls webpages or other files with a lot of text in them across the screen. Jan. =--- |

Just got a 19" Sceptre monitor for $404 including shipping and it is awsome!
It's the model called Gamer and has .12ms speed. MILO "Jan Verschueren" > wrote in message ... > "Jan Verschueren" wrote... >> <snip> > > 110ms?? -where'd that come from? -try 38ms and up, think 45ms was the > slowest one we had here. > > Jan./bad night, ok? :-/ > =--- > > |

Racing sims don't seem so piccy, FPS's are ruined by slow response times.
IMO 16ms response time is crucial and 12ms for an FPS. I'm using a BenQ FP937S and it's fabulous. -- Andi. I bought this
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/de...xseries/vx910/ from Best Buy recently and couldn't be happier. It's on sale now for $500 with a $50.00 rebate. 16ms response time. No ghosting. Everything looks beautiful. -- David G Fisher "tlgtr" > wrote in message oups.com... > I have been looking into a flat screen LCD to get more desk space... > Ih ave a freind who can get me a good deal on an Acer 1912...19" LCD > monitor.
