I'll NEVER buy another VW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once was enough for me with this POS Jetta GLS 2003 I made the mistake of
purchasing.

So far I have had:

1. Windows that fell down due to plastic clips breaking.

2. A center console that broke twice (the gear strips)

3. The cup holders breaking twice. Who puts a cup holder where it can drip
onto the radio and climate control switches anyhow?

4. The transmission hesitating into park/reverse and shifting
very hard from first to second.

It's been re-programmed 3 times already but the problem returns after a
couple of days.

5 The coolant pump breaking (just past the 60k warranty of course) and
causing the car to overheat. Fortunately I was pulling into the driveway
when it started. Who makes coolant pumps with plastic impellers pressed on
to the shaft?

6. A groan from the rear when pushing up and down on the rear end of the
car.

Add to this all the special fluids that VW uses, like $11.00 for a little
container of power steering fluid, $24 for G12 coolant etc.

This entire pile of junk is over engineered and designed to milk the
owners pockets with costly repairs.

This car should come with it's own mechanic in the trunk as standard
equipment.

Just for comparison, I have a 1996 Chevy Impala SS with about 350,000
miles on it and I just replaced the timing chain, gears and water pump at
325,000 miles or so.

It still has the original engine and transmission, doesn't burn oil and
runs like a dream.

My Jetta has 63,000 miles on it and I seriously doubt it will make 100,000
miles without something else going wrong.
I maintain my cars very well and have yet to have a car not make 200,000
miles or more before selling it.

This Jetta, which I purchased brand new, may be the first one.

I'd never by an Asian car, but my next car is going to be good old Ford,
GM or DMC because when taken care of, they run forever and don't cost an
arm and a leg to fix.

My strong advice to you is never to buy another VW.

You are not willing to buy an Asian car, but you will buy one from Ford or
GM? Have you read any Consumer Reports lately?

With all due respect, Consumer Reports is probably the absolute worst
source of unbiased information about cars.

There are numerous examples of the exact same car, re-badged, doing
substantially differently on the tests.

The net is full of articles explaining why Asian cars usually do well on
Consumer Reports testing.
One factor is, the Asian auto makers build their cars to do well on the
tests. They started following CR back in the 70's and they kept track of
what CR liked and didn't like about cars in general.

Then they simple built the car to do well on CR reports (ergonomically of
course).

There are others.

FWIW VW doesn't do to well on CR tests either.

I don't.

I remember when they tested loudspeakers based on frequency response
measurements and little else.

It was a complete joke when the Bose came out on top.

Ask an audiophile sometime what the community thinks of Bose.
Better yet ask a professional audio engineer who makes his living
recording music.

Then there is the fact that Consumers never really tells anyone how,
specifically, their tests are conducted.

Of course not.

If they did that, then they would have to explain how a Ford Probe and
some Mazda got totally different test results when the only difference
between the cars was the shape of the sheet metal outside and even that
was pretty close.

Or how they can say stuff like "the interior of the Corolla is small, but
that is to be expected in a compact car".

Yet with the Cavalier, they say something like " the interior is small and
claustrophobic".

Or stuff like Xyyzz car was a decent performer.
We expect aabbcc car to test similar.

Expect?

Now that's really scientific.

Meanwhile the two cars are completely different because one has an
underpowered I4 and the other a V6.

Ever notice how really high end cars do well for the most part in
reliability?

Ask someone who has owned a Jaguar how reliable it was.......

The dealerships pamper those people and of course they walk away feeling
good despite a $70k car being a pile of junk.

Am I going to admit this $70k car is junk?
Of course not.

Also although they claim a very high sample rate for their reliability
statistics, when you crunch the TOTAL NUMBERS, the figure is very low
per car and if you take into account that people who have troubles are
much more likely to respond, you have a totally skewed sample rate.

I know you don't. Wasn't that already obvious?

Most VW owners realize that they are not known for top reliabity

Japanese cars are most reliable.

German cars are known for engineering, good road handling and fun to drive.

American cars are quiet, cushy ride.

Diffferences are relatively minor and with exceptions, but these are
generally the case.

Personally I find some of their information useful and some of it
ludicrous.

The only Jap car I like is the Lexus and the Infiniti G35.
Honda is over rated IMHO and Nissan is mostly junk.
Ask 350Z owners about their tires wearing out prematurely unevenly for
example.
As for American cars, some are good and some are terrible.
Same goes for any car.
