Amazing Passat W8 vs Corvette ZO6 Video
Too funny. A front heavy car meant for cruising fast. Many would
suggest a balanced car is designed to be driven fast. Is a Skoda the best car in the world because VAG has shares in it? At the racetrack what cars do you see racing? I look at the American Lemans series and I don't see anything about VW racing. I do see Audi racing. I see Chevrolet Corvettes. I see Audi, Porsche but no VW. I go to the Grand Am series and I see in the Koni Challenge that VW is 9 in the ST class just above Hundai. Nothing in the GS class. In the Rolex classes they do not have any points so I guess that means they are not racing at all. Just because a car might be able to go fast does not mean the car is a safe well balanced car at speed. Just because a car may be able to go fast does not mean the car is superiour. When I have read VW reviews of actual cars that professional drivers take out to the track for real lap times, the VWs have not been first. Please cite any widely read periodicals that state otherwise. Wsting my breath here but I believe I have seen Cadillac at the race track. I still can't recall seeing a competive VW. No, Audi is not VW. Yes they may share some stock and some parts but they are not really VW anymore than a Bugotti is a VW, or Saab is GM, or Mecedes is Chrysler, or Jaguar is Ford. The reason that the Corvette hit the rev limiter is because its top
speed is actually in 5th gear because it doesn't have enough power to go fast in 6th gear. The W8 would hit the rev limiter too in 5th gear. It just has the governor removed, NOT the rev limiter. Overdrive (6th) contributes to highway fuel economy, offers improved range, longer engine life and avoids a gas guzzler tax. It has proven successful in Corvettes (auto and stick) for over 20 years. I don't find that an undesirable quality. Getting real: The W8, WRX have had some temporary fascination for sports car fans in this country since they are out of the ordinary. Hell, I'd pick a Skoda Superb over a Chevy Malibu or Ford Fusion any day of the week give the chance. VW sell Skoda Superbs in the US because it would harm Passat Sales. VW also doesn't make Passat Convertibles because it would hurt A4 Convertible Sales, although the EOS does the same to a smaller degree. So if you want to be technical you are talking about an Audi that you think is so great, not a VW. Your one off discussions are silly also. There are plenty of Corvette one off with turbos. We had a 72 Polara in the family. It was spec'ed out by CHP to go a minimum of 140 mph. I was not so interested in driving that 5,000 pound car 140. It got up to 120 pretty fast though. OK, not as fast as a lot of the factory race cars you can buy but it was 5,000 pounds.Something that has the potential to go fast does not mean that you want to drive it fast on anything but a straight road. I am not ignorant enough to suggest that one car is superiour to another. That is oft times as silly as saying my methane smells better than you methane. Fun troll, sort of. |
