Factory Recall on New Z
Well, I had the 2008 Z06 over to the dealer to get the Lojac and impact
alarm installed. Seems there's a recall, (#07260 for Dad). Something about a software update. Had to order a part. Took it in today for the installation and also, the one of the flappers in the exhaust tips was stuck open. Mental note, probably need to WD-40 this on a routine basis. One thing I did notice, before the update, the seat did not automatically go back on opening of the door like my old '04 Z. On the '08, you have to set the parking brake and push a button. A pain in the ass. And the seat didn't go all the way back. Well, after the recall fix, the seat seams to work right, or maybe I think it does. Flapper solenoid out of alighment, fixed. Problem: The Active Handling/Traction control does not work now. The button does nothing. When you give it WOT the rear end goes crazy, so I guess it fails, off. Also, the outdoor temperature indicator is stuck at 77 degrees. Anyone got a clue besides the tech or the new part screwed up? Is there a reset of some sort that needs to be done? Don't want to take it to the dealer tomorrow as I've got a hot lunch date with a red head in my red Corvette. Picking her up in my F150 pickup would just be wrong. Later, Ed |

That was a lesson taught, not only did it teach me how crazy it can get but it taught me how to control it on my own and most importmant, I'm not sure who told this to me (may have been Dad) but always respect the car (Vette) ALWAYs When you give it WOT the rear end goes crazy, so I > guess it fails, off. It was primarily to update the key fob and requires a new module in the serial number range of 105302 through 106987. It requires a set procedure to correct the issue and not doing it properly will give strange results. Also you may get a flash update any time you take your car in as they are always working on correcting software issues and to keep you in specification for smog control by changing the ecm fuel trims, timing, and other things they don't tell you about. There has been 5 done on my C6 in 31,000 miles and the only issue I have had is it lost my seat memory. In other words it moved when I got in and I killed that function the day I got it. Reset it so it won't move and have had no issues since except the service active handling that I spoke of a few weeks back. As far as actual recalls on the C6 Corvette, (all models) I believe there are 3. One for brake hose location, another for top separation, and the last for hydraulic foundation components, (steering). All others issues are service bulletins or customer satisfaction bulletins, about 6 for the '08 Z06. One of which is for the Z06 automatic transmission so you can see how accurate the information is. By the way, that complaint was registered 4/01/08/. ;-) |

They still work, but they've screwed up something else. I didn't take my spare fob in, wonder if it works now? Am I smelling Big Brother here? I already have OnStar telling me my tires are a lb. low. Can they remotely disable the car in the event of theft? Seems there could be some liability. |

Got to admit, a Ford man from way back. The F150 is a '97 and has never left me stranded. All I do is maintain it. The '04 Z, in 28K miles, fuel pump, water pump, rear end clutches. Rental cars, days in the shop. But heh, it's a performance car. But, chicks dig the Vette!!! To heck with the traction control and thermometer. Ed |
