any suggestions on what's best to remove the everyday grit which
has accumulated over the years on the fiberglass poptop of our '82
westy? it looks almost as if a bleach of some type might be needed.
thanks any advice. art

Try a 50/50 mix of ammonia and alcohol or you could use comit.

Softscrub kitchen cleaner with a sponge and elbow grease, followed by a coat
of caranuba wax once it's clean. I once worked for a fiberglass boat
detailer in Florida and that's what we used on million dollar fishing
boats - worked like a charm.

Just don't wax below the waterline
On faster boats the friction of water will burn up the wax..

We worked on them in the water, so we only cleaned from the waterline up.
That alone was a 14 hour day, everything was done by hand, no machine power
at all.

UGH. I used a slow electric DA polisher. And had the boat on a trailer

A 42 ft Hatteras is just a bit too large for a trailer!
