Famous reporter Robert Novak - Charged with HIT & RUN - "I didn't know i hit him" -- yeah right
If this is true, he deserves 20 years in prison but we all know he'll just pay a fine and that'll be it in criminal coddler america. http://www.wjla.com/news/stories/0708/537957.html Exclusive: Robert Novak Speaks About Striking Pedestrian posted 3:26 pm Wed July 23, 2008 - WASHINGTON The pedestrian who was struck by prominent Washington columnist and commentator Robert Novak is in worse shape than first thought, a hospital source tells ABC 7 News. The victim, a 66-year-old man, is undergoing surgery and was only semi- conscious, the source said. In an exclusive interview with ABC 7 News, Novak said felt "terrible" about striking a pedestrian Wednesday morning while on his way to work in downtown D.C. Metropolitan police cited Novak with failure to yield to a pedestrian about 10:07 a.m. at 18th and K streets NW, Novak confirmed to ABC 7 News. Novak spoke to ABC 7 News as he emerged from a police car at the scene. Novak said he did not know he had struck anyone. Novak said he didn't know anything was wrong until a bicyclist rode ahead of him and blocked traffic. The bicyclist informed Novak he had hit a pedestrian. In an interview, the bicyclist told ABC 7's Suzanne Kennedy the pedestrian was splayed across Novak's windshield, and there was no way that Novak could not have known he struck someone. The cyclist, David Bono, also said that the pedestrian was in a crosswalk and had the right of way. Novak admitted he was emotionally shaken by the incident. Metropolitan Police Department (web|news) officers detained Novak at the scene for about an hour. He was not arrested D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Alan Etter said the pedestrian complained of pain in his arm and was taken to George Washington University Hospital with what were described as minor injuries at the time. |

Not arrested? You and I know that if that had happened to us, we'd be sitting inside a jail cell being questioned with bullwhips and tortured. The mere fact that the driver injured a person should be enough to lock the driver away for a couple of years. But nooooo, having status in high society counts. Like Ted Kennedy was never charged for his role in that well known incident. Like the governor of New Jersey's driver was never charged for illegal use of light and siren and speed. Justice only gets applied when it's to someone who has no fame, fortune, or knowledge of how things work. |

Last year someone hit a motorcyclist in my town (San Francisco, the incident I'm relating happened in the SOMA district), hard enough to rip the front bumper from their car. Took off. Must have realized that their front bumper - with license plate - was at the scene, and returned about ten or fifteen minutes after the accident - the police and paramedics were already on the scene. No arrest. The fact that he stopped within a few minutes and claims he didn't know he hit anyone makes it hard to prove he intentionally fled the scene of an accident. Hard to convince a jury, since the guy was sober and insured, and there were plenty of witnesses, that he had a reason to flee or would think he'd get away with it. Bo Raxo |

Looks like the Magic Words didn't work this time, Brent. "I didn't know I hit him" are not magic words. Because that means they drove on. What a driver has to do is stop at the scene of the collision immediately and when the cops show up proclaim "I didn't see him" or "he swerved / stepped right out in front of me". By driving on the cops think the driver is disregarding the procedure, and by doing so, their authority. It doesn't matter if the driver is so brain dead and unaware that they don't know something hit their vehicle the cops are going to assume malice. It's as if the driver challenged their authoritah (yes, south park) when they don't stop immediately after a collision. It's like when someone dares to drive on to a well lit populated location before being pulled over. The cop doesn't think about the driver's safety, but rather the insult to his authority. >> He said he chased Novak half a block down K Street, finally caught up >> with him and then put his bike in front of the car to block it and >> called 911. Love to see it but we both know nothing will be done to this rich big shot. A few years back newsman Jack Cafferty ran over a cyclist and kept on going and he paid just a small fine and that was it. And we all know about laura bush and teddy k. The rich and powerful do whatever they want. |

Not charged with hit and run. *You* may think it's hit and run. *I* may think it's hit and run. But the subject line of your post that he was "Charged with Hit and Run" is not true. Not true. Can you grasp the difference between what you *think* should happen and what actually *did* happen? Are you actually too dimwitted to grasp the difference between the two? You must have an IQ somewhere around room temperature. Celsius. Bo Raxo |
