Blaupunkt Phoenix & 2000 SL1

Today I went to dealer in Fort Lauderdale for a new radio. My 2000 SL1 is
about to hit 100K without any problems and I plan to keep it for a while. I
wanted to get a stereo that can play MP3s and after looking at the
selection, I chose a Blaupunkt Phoenix. The radio and installation were
under $200. I paid for it, picked it up, and moved the car to the install
area.
The manager of the install area told me it would not fit after the install
had begun. He said two of the knobs would interfere. He offered me a Kenwood
instead.
I refused and he was surprised. He then told me that the Kenwood was a
better radio than the Blaupunkt. I held my ground as I have had cars with
Blaupunkts in them and been happy.
The one that I had selected had all the features I wanted and my decision
had to be respected. So I got a refund to his surprise. I can't say it was
'bait and switch' but it was clear to me that the person was expecting me to
take the other stereo.
So does anyone have a Blaupunkt Phoenix in a 1999-2003 SL1? Or can anyone
say that it will not fit in a 2000 SL?
In his defense, the install manager might have been giving me a better
radio. But after living in south Florida since the late 80s, I am used to
people trying to alter a deal once money has been exchanged. I've been
burned a few times so I back out if someone cannot live up to promises that
were made. When the salesman looked up the install kit for my model, it was
there. I would like to know the truth of the matter.

Typically, I would say go to Crutchfield.com, but I checked and don't
see that model of receiver there. You might check anyway and see if
there is something from the same mfg that you're interested in:
