Default High Speed Passenger Trains in America - Would Terrorists attack them?

China has a 200 mph train in service now but if america tried that it would
probably lead to daily cases of loonies blowing up the rails right before
the train comes along, killing hundreds of people. Be easy to do and no
need to be suicidal as with plane terrorists.

Much more realistic, who would the PASSENGERS be - when the job market
is so depressed? Are there really going to be lots of PASSENGERS
needing trains when they lack jobs to daily commute to?
This is just another Obama bailout - this time, to various unions
whose members will build the rail system.

No. It would be just more hysteria. There really are boogy men(Muslim
Terrorists) under the bed though.

Talk is, "hi speed" means 80mph. Hell, some passenger trains already do
that easily.

What they really need is an elevated, mag-lev train.

What we need is local jobs. No need for 200 mile commutes to work.
The only ones using them in the Northeast are pencil pushers.
They don't produce so much as account.

They did 80 regularly back in the 30's and 40's. The limiting factor
now is not finding trains that can go fast, it's finding track that's
safe to go that fast on. Track is not maintained as well now in that
regard as it was 50 years ago.

But then the terrorists wouldn't get to their 72 virgins straight
away.

You think it's JUST about unions? There is a reason that all the
lefties (progressives) are pushing hard for "light rail" and "high
speed rail". And that would be because it tends to eliminate the
freedom to travel freely without government monitoring. Yes, the On-
Star system is a great advance whereby you can be tracked by GPS
wherever you go with the officials in control of your car. If they
don't give you permission to drive, they just turn it off.

Of course public transit is the same idea. You have to get permission
from the government to travel (buy a ticket) Go when and where they
say (train schedule) and be tracked in a computer and have your
movements logged. (for a salient example see the Metro system in DC).

Like all liberal lefty wet dreams it comes right out of the 19th
century. Back when there actually used to BE "light rail" between
Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Well gosh if this is such a
wonderful idea that we need to bankrupt the country to build it, and
why isn't the original system still running?

The answer is simple. The automobile gave America FREEDOM! Hey would
I take a 200 mph train to Cleveland? If the ticket price were low
enough it might be tempting. And then what? It dumps me off at the
Terminal Tower downtown and I"m left to do what? Call a cab? By the
time I'm through fooling with cabs and buses and luggage and God knows
what. The time I saved using the high speed train is more than lost in
transportation folderol. But the good news is the gummint is tracking
me and can turn off my ride any time they choose! Now THAT feature is
well worth the trouble the passengers might have to put up with.

Leave it to the liberal left to worship people control. But that's
only because they "care"!
