Has anyone modified their 2 bolt Main Caps, to 4 bolt ?
I see Moroso has a new kit which enables one to do this. Has anyone done
this themselves, or, had a machine shop do it ? Cost ? Difficulty ? |

A reputible machine shop that deals in performance work usually handles
that. It's not something that can be done at home. After the block mating surface is machined to accept the caps, the new holes have to be drilled and tapped for the outboard bolts. Then the whole thing has to be line bored to match the main size. Splayed caps are stronger. Give your local machine shop a call, they can answer any questions you have on pricing or methods. -- Jason E. Unless you are going into racing, or planning on hauling a very heavy
trailer, save your money and forget about it. Even in racing, All 327s including the 6500 redline fuelies were 2-bolt main engines. The '67 Z-28 302 was a 2 bolt. Most passenger car 350s are 2 bolt mains and they haul a reasonable trailer load also. Cost is the price of the caps, price of align boring the caps, and drilling/tapping the block for the extra bolts. Look around on eBay, you'll find plenty already don't and at a much cheaper price.
