Windows stopped working on 1996 Honda Civic

To all readers:

Last night, my windows stopped working on my 1996 Honda Civic without
any warning. This a.m. I looked for broken fuses:
1. fuses (designated in manual) in below-dash fusebox
2. fuses (designated in manual) in under-hood fusebox

I didn't see any broken fuses.

Both headlights, all taillights, and all accessories are working.

Is anyone able to offer a suggestion for either: (1) troubleshooting
the windows or (2) diagnosing the problem?

Try working the window lock-out switch on the driver's door a few times and
see if they start working again.

Not to belabor the obvious-- but make sure it's not in the "locked"
position...

"No," it isn't, thanks. The manual mentions inspecting all fuses --
is this necessary?

I'm assuming that you tried each switch other then the driver's side?
If you don't hear the motor at all than you either have a blow fuse or
an electrical short somewhere. The best suggestion would be to take it
to your local shop or dealer and have it looked at.

If you have checked THE fuse that is for the windows then pull out the
switch and make sure the wiring harness is plugged in.

Hi Ivory,

You may want to bring it to a technician and have remove the door
panel and check for the motor inside. If the fuse is working okay and
all others, have the technician remove the motor inside and check for
the windings and other stuff in the motor. Sometimes it stuck just
like my 97 honda civic...

I can't picture a Honda technician in Canada or America who's going to
take the window motor apart and poke around with it for $96 per hour.

They R&R and send you on your way with a new warrantied part.

"My" mechanic mentioned something about the harness in the door
(coming loose), so I'm going to his garage tomorrow night @ 5:00 p.m.
He's not cheap but less expensive than the dealer.
