Default Any Problem With Old Sears Digitorque Torque Wrenches?

I have an about 30 year old Sears Digitorque torque wrench. It has
been used very little and probably the last time I used it was five
years ago. Is there any reason to believe it shouldn't be trusted?

if you have a question, calibrate it yourself. You can rig a rough test
using a bench vice, a gallon jug, some way to hang jug from handle, a
known accurate scale, etc...

Yes. Don't trust ANY torque wrench that has been five years without
calibration. Clamp the shaft into a bench vise, hang a known weight
off the handle, multiply the weight by the shaft length and compare
with the number you get on the display. Mark the calibration date on
the side. It'll take ten minutes and then you'll know for sure.

I have a Sears clicker torque wrench and a beam type torque wrench and a
MAC inch/pounds torque wrench that belonged to my dad.
Vehicles that have a lot of miles on them, even though the head bolts
were probally torqued properlly at the factory, chances are at leat one
or more head bolts have loosened up.I have seen that myself.

It's 107 miles to Chicago, we have a half a pack of cigarettes and a
full tank of gas.

I can check the calibration the way you say, but if it's off I don't
know how to adjust it. The booklet that came with it suggests it has
no serviceable parts.

Never mind. Using two points and taking the weight of the wrench
itself into consideration (it weighs three pounds) the wrench is still
within the stated 3% tolerance. Amazing!

Well, there's the rub. You may have to send it back. So check it and
hope it's okay.

Some of the digital ones have a pot inside that can be adjusted. Some
may not.
