I like that hybrid Dodge Ram. It comes with plug in AC and
all sorts of goodies.

Hard to see it as a replacement for the Land Rover - the Rapier is a 127"
wheelbase with a 1 ton + capacity.
http://www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=28&Overide=1

The 90s are more like the same size as the TJL
http://www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=673&Overide=1

but they come with a higher payload, higher ground clearance and stronger
bumpers. Nobody is going to buy the that configuration of TJL as it rains
too much here ! It is also way way too close to the ground to pull 3/4 ton
GKN or Sankey trailer
http://www.witham-sv.com/infopage.php?ID=355&Overide=1

And all LandRovers can be washed out by a hose which TJs can't.

Not that you couldn't make a Jeep an equivalent of a Defender at a
competitive price (after all, that's what this group is about !), but this
just isn't it.

As an aside, I like this unused offering, good price as well !

Dave have you ever thought of going into the export business about
$12.000.00 US for one and $22,000.00 for the other. If I could get one in
the states for that price I would don't get me wrong I still love my TJ but,
it would be fun to have another toy.

Interesting idea .. I/we would have to investigate the US legislation ; they
don't come with airbags or catalytic converters for a start, and you have
different lighting rules also. I think LR themselves gave up with exporting
the Defender for these reasons, but private imports might come under
different rules.

In the US the military exempts themselves from most of the "safety
equipment" requirements. I assume the UK is the same.

I am assuming the DC bid offerings are for specific use (i.e. radio vehicle
for the Pickup)

The US is reconsidering the Hummer..... it has proven to be unsuitable for
its present use (urban warfare). Why they are using them instead of armored
personnel carriers is beyond me.

You would think they would have learned something from all those years the
UK military spent in Northern Ireland where if you sent 4 men in an
unarmored LR there was a chance none of them came back

[quote]
"[...] continues the Jeep legend that began in 1941 when the American
Army needed a tough and versatile cross-country vehicle. The result was
the world’s first purpose built four-wheel drive vehicle – the Willys
MB, nicknamed the ‘Jeep’."
[unquote]

Yeah. Whoever wrote that press release (it's plastered all over the
Web) needed to do a better job of fact checking. Dodge was building
military 1/2 ton 4x4 command cars in 1939, and FWD technology was in use
for WWI artillery tractors, and various manufacturers were building 4x4
vehicles for military use in the inter-war years. See:
<URL:http://www.geocities.com/jeeptoys/history.htm>

But anyway, I wonder how they plan to fit 8 butts into that TJ?

I am curious about the "COMBATT 2" (ghood ghod, who signed off on that
name?) and its 10kW AC genset. I could find a lot of uses for such a
beast. The article doesn't make it clear but gives me the impression
that it is a hybrid drive system.
