Default cylinder misfire problem

I have a 98 caravan with the 2.4l engine with 49k miles. It has been
occasionally sputtering lately and the ses light came on with code
p0303-"cylinder 3 misfire detected". What would cause this problem and
code? It has been leaking oil from the driver side rear corner from
the original non-mls head gasket, but that is not near cylinder 3.
