Starter Hanging
I have been restoring a 1973 bug and I am now at the point of getting it
running. My problem is that the starter hangs some of the time and the only way to stop it it to disconnect the battery. It is a brand new starter and it does this eather with the key or jumping it from underneath. I tried another starter, the one that was on when I got it but it is junk and will not even turn over. This has been driving me up the wall and almost to the point of throughing things, I stop at that point. I know that the wiring is all messed up since this bug was pulled out of a lake. It was not in there very long since there was not even any water in the crank case. After setting for 3years most of the wiring seems to be a real headache. I would think that I could just jump the starter with out any problems, but no way. |

If it still hangs (when you jump it underneath), the wiring is not at fault. I suspect there is a problem in the solenoid itself (adjustment.etc.) I think you have a good case for returning it./ Speedy Jim http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/ |
