I *NEED* MY "E"! Who stole my "E"? Gimme back my "E"! ;-)

In Yamaha's model system at the time, the E designated the year 1978,
an XS11F would be a 1979, etc. etc.
The 1978 was in many respects a more desirable machine than any of the
later versions because of Yamaha's system of importing of a year's
production before December 31 of any year. Since the 1978 XS11s
actually came into the US in 1977 they were exempt from all smog
regulations that hurt performance, fuel economy and drivability of the
later models. I can't recall all the details but there were changes in
ignition timing, carb jetting, etc. in 1979 models.

Must have been different on the XS650E, which changed wiring and carb
jetting in mid-'78. For some reason they phased in changes - I had one that
was about 30 past the serial-number cutover, it had the later carbs and
earlier wiring.

And then in mid-'79 they ran production out of the XS650F "Standard" and
started making the "Special II". So 1979 has three models that turn up:
Standard, Special, and Special II.

Will do Tom! What a car you have! I love the color and I love the PRHT! And
I happen to know parts of NC are just MADE for a Miata!

Take care!
