Default 1993 SL1 Check Engine Code

I'm getting an intermittant check engine light and would like advice on
figuring out what it means. Is there an inexpensive tool that will read the
code? A list of code available on the web? The car is running fine.

You can use a jumper wire to read trouble codes on most pre-1996 GM
vehicles. See www.troublecodes.net or my site below.
