Of course they were, mommy and daddy will buy the kid a new car.

Of course that's all. And he will probably be let off in court when mommy
and daddy get him a lawyer.

I always find it amazing that gross incompetence and recklessness
resulting in a death is punished so lightly compared to just driving the
speed of traffic and harming no one.

Standard denial

What does he care, mommy and daddy will pay for the body shop to fix his
car, that is for just hitting the dog. For totalling it, he'll get a new
one. After all he'll say it was 'sudden acceleration' or some other BS.
