Front Speaker Install in '99 SW2
I bought some aftermarket speakers for my SW2 and have seen some
conflicting advice on how to remove the grill. It looks like the grill should be removed by unsnapping the panel that also forms the pocket on the door (looks to be secured with 1 Phillips screw). However, when I tried this I think I broke one of the little clips that holds this panel to the main door panel, so I thought I'd stop and ask for advice. Does this smaller panel come off, or is it necessary to remove the entire door panel? Thanks! |

Front Speaker Install in '99 SW2
I'm willing to bet that your 99 SW2 has the same doors as my 97 SC2.
If that's true, remove the entire inside panel. Don't worry, it comes off pretty easy. 1. remove the "sail" panel (the triangle piece near the mirror) 2. Remove the screw that was hidden by the sail panel. 3. Remove 2 screws below door pull handle (where you grab the door to pull it shut from inside, not where you pull to release the latch to open it). 4. Remove 1 screw from door release assembly. Slide the assembly towards the front of the door to release it. Pull assembly out enough to rotate 2 clips on linkage rods and disconnect the rods. 5. Disconnect power lock wiring harness. 6. If you have manual windows, remove the crank. It's held on with a C clip behind the crank. 7. There is a plastic pin on the trailing edge of the doorholding the panel on. Remove the pin. 8. Lift the inner door panel up, and disconnect any electrical connectors. You should now have access to the Speaker well. I replaced my speakers about 3 years ago, but as I recall, the speaker panel that you were describing was a ruse. It's all glued together or one plastic piece or something. Thanks. Remove the BALONEY from my email address. ----------------------------------------------------- Matthew Fries Minneapolis, MN USA "Quit eating all my *STUFF*!" - The Tick |
