Yes they are.

If I speed up and get in front of him, that's _rude_, that's possibly
ticketable as aggressive driving, and it is damn sure ticketable as speeding.
Remember, I'm 7 over already. If I add another 8, that's not only speeding,
but around here that is "reckless driving", good for a court date, possible
jail time, big/huge fines, etc. You gonna pay this fine or sit in the jail for
me? I didn't think so...

Hell, all the drivers I know that I might ride along with have had more
accidents than I have. IOW, this **** works... I stay out of trouble.

U do it your way, bleed on the highway every now and then, and I'll do it my
way, and continue alive and uninjured.

Hey, every now and then I do drive in the right lane. Waddaya think happened
on I-10 east of Houston when I did that? Some damn hillbilly with car trouble
was standing in the right lane, in the dark at about 5:00 AM, waving his shirt
trying to get me to stop. I didn't see him until my lights got there, and I
did the most bodacious slide sideways into the left lane, then the right, then
the left as the tail end attempted to misbehave. Shoulda been in the left lane
that morning, too.

Come do it on Rt. 3 east of Fredericksburg, a 4 lane road not built to
Interstate standards. Your 15 mph will get you a speeding ticket. Your 20
will get you a reckless driving ticket. And you'll be passing most everything
in sight, including me.

I'm often in the left lane, but usually passing everything else anyway.

Try driving the US 460 bypass and I-81 near the Christiansburg area and
report back to us. Sometimes, they do have police out, and that's why I
use a radar detector. Police here don't have any concept of instant on
radar when traffic density is moderate, which gives me plenty of warning.

Not sure where Christianburg is, but I've driven I-81. I give up on the +7 on
that road just to keep from getting squished by trucks. I drive to keep from
being caught by trucks. Usually that is waaaayyy over the limit - the trucks
zoom downhill on I-81 at about 90. I'm not having anything like that closing
on me... I look out for number 1, as I said. If I get a ticket, I get a
ticket, I'll pay it, and still not bleed on the highway.

What are you going on about. If he's a potential duckling going 2 mph
faster than you, and you accelerate to 5 mph faster than you were going
to get in front of him to pass (maintaining that speed until you return
to the right lane), then how is that rude?

Not if you do it soon enough so that you're not actually cutting in
front of him.

You don't have to add another 8. Another 3 temporarily will do just
fine, especially if the differential relative to the car ahead of you
was already around 5 mph.

It's near mile marker 118 (closer to the southern part of VA).

Nah, they don't go much more than 80 mph most of the time.
