Speaking of engineers...
And "over-engineered".
I was getting bored sitting around after my surgery, but wasn't quite up to wrenching on cars yet. One thing I had wanted to do to the '68 was add an electric windshield washer pump. And the other thing I did NOT want was another hole butchered into the dash! Details here (w/pics): http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/htm/washer.htm Speedy Jim http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/ |

I had a similar idea when I had my 74, but I never got around to doing it. The car already had plenty of plugged factory holes in the dash to accept extra buttons. Jan |

Yep you were bored....definitely bored! lol
It does look WAY over-engineered! It looks good though! ;-) What ever happened to KISS (Keep It Simple Speedy)? I guess when you don't own show cars, like me, you don't have to worry about making a "hidden" switch! I updated my '66 Beetle with a 1972 steering column. Very Clever you are! ;-) -- later, (One out of many daves) "Speedy Jim" > wrote in message ... > And "over-engineered". > > I was getting bored sitting around after my surgery, but wasn't quite up > to wrenching on cars yet. > > One thing I had wanted to do to the '68 was add an electric windshield > washer pump. What are the advantages of the 1972 steering column? I've had thoughts of putting in some later model steering column that had tilt wheel but I'm not sure I'd appreciate it enough to make it worth the effort. Tony |

'72 up had the wiper\washer switch on the column. Speedy Jim http://www.nls.net/mp/volks/ |

There's one within the steering wheel itself. -- Scott |

I did install a '72 Super Beetle column in my '67 Bradley GT too. I liked
the U-Joints where one of them was welded to the steering box. But why a Jetta steering column? Tilt? Then get a later model from a Passat with Tilt and Telescope abilities! AND put in an air bag steering wheel! lol -- later, (One out of many daves) "Anthony W" > wrote in message ... > dave AKA vwdoc1 wrote: > >> Lets not forget that the '72 has a better cancelling turn signal switch >> AND a locking steering wheel! ;-) >> Not sure I know of any aircooled Beetles with a factory tilt wheel >> though. > > I was thinking of modifying a steering column from one of those evil > water-pumpers like a Jeta... > > Tony |

A tilt wheel would be very nice... Tony |
