Amen. A good fantasy track is often superior to a dull "real"
track. That said:

I'm not sure why a lot of "fantasy" tracks are actually rather boring
too-here you have total freedom to make something to really blow
everyone's socks off, and you make-what? A 2.2 mile road course
with virtually no elevation changes and simple constant radius turns
(no "compromise" corners either). In NR2003 I've seen far too many
of these. For some reason the racing community often comes
across as really conservative in some ways, and this is one of
them.

That's true, I would prefer quality over quantity. Bull Run is the perfect
example of a great fantasy track. It should get ported to rFactor, its
probably the fantasy track people here have raced the most, its been passed
on from N2 to the NROS to N3, GPL N4, NR2002, NR2003 and all the various
mods.

You can't deny the factor of having the chance to drive around a track that
you would never in real life, tracks where you watched your heroes race on
them. That's the major attraction of real-life tracks, and a big point over
fantasy ones. Same for cars.

Please put down the Papy flag for five minutes.

He compared it to all sims.

A lot of people weren't running GPL. It ran poorly unless you had the very
latest computer setup.

The grip on the cars was way off. A few of us realized that from minute one.
Others had to wait until they were told by Kaemmer five years later before
they could figure it out.

There were fantasy cars and fantasy drivers in GPL.

Where is this statement from Kaemmer?

I'd be up for that too. I only raced a few times in RASCAR but really
enjoyed it.

It is being ported for rF. In fact some have already tested it. IF the
multiplayer for rF works out and especially if the driver swap option
becomes enabled, then you can bet the Bullrun 1000 will be a non-papy event
for the first time in it's history.

That probably is in refernce to a statement made in an interview after
one of the last versions was released.(N3 or N4 or N2k3, I cannot separate
them enough in the past to remember) To paraphrase from my foggy brain,
he said he still liked GPL but couldn't race it anymore because the tire
model was either so bad or non-existant. So he much preferred slogging
around with the Nascar tanks than dancing with GPL.

There's easily 50 road courses in NR2003 that are worthly in quality, if
many of them get ported onto rFactor, it's the good way and most of the
people will say goodbye to Papy for good

For many of them there is no need to start from scratch and redo those
tracks.

Nah its not that at all. Papy's dead, buried. I don't hate rFactor, au
contraire its good from all that I see but I'll wait and see if its
supported by both the community and the developpers. Or else it'll be just
another sim, like GTR that stays on harddrives for 6 months until another
one gets released. I hope that's not true, but we cannot say that for the
moment.

I had 30+ fps on a Pentium 166. You just had to take off some stuff, you
know.

Fantasy drivers in GPL? Unless you consider "Player" as one

Tools and patches are coming, not to mention a couple of future upgrades
of the sim itself, as in not fixing bugs but putting planned features in
there that wasn't targeted for the release version

And as for mod groups for ISI sims.....my guess is that they easily
outnumber the same for Papy sims and are no less determined, we're
currently co-operating with RSR for our NAGT mod and I have to say that
those guys have impressed me with the quality of their work so far

Beers and cheers
