WHAT ARE THE BEST ONLINE TRAFFIC SCHOOLS OR DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOLS?

2/26/2001 - webreviews.com - Traffic schools are the main way drivers
avoid points appearing on their defensive driving records and an
increase in their car insurance payments.

In order to beat the competition - and to make what is bound to be a
dull few hours as painless as possible - traffic schools have come up
with various ways to get people to attend their classes. The most
popular of these is to offer a traffic school in which the instructor
adds a heavy dose of humor to the class. Others offer free pizza to
those who enroll. Still others are more practical and, knowing how
much money cited drivers have already paid, emphasize their minimal
fees or don't require payment unless you pass the course. Others now
offer the same services online for home study.

In summary, there are 3 ways to complete a traffic school course:
On site , Online, Via home study.

At on site schools, students meet at a location determined by the
traffic school, where they receive instruction on road rules and
driving safely. If you want free pizza and comedy as a part of your
traffic school experience, then this is probably the option to go
with.

But today, in-class traffic schools are fading out in the new internet
world. A simple search of the Internet today will bring up many such
online traffic schools.

The HOME STUDY benefits are obvious:

You can take the course in the comfort of your own home or wherever
you have access to a computer. You can work at your own pace (as long
as you meet the court's deadline). You don't have to worry about
making reservations for a class or locating a building. In some cases,
it may be less expensive than regular traffic school. Some even have
interactive games and allow you to take the course via streaming
video.

But in all this confusion, who is the best? We at WebReviews.com
attempted to determine just that.

We categorized 4 areas: SIMPLICITY OF THE WEB SITE, PRICE OF THE
COURSE, AVAILABILITY OF THE TRAFFIC SCHOOL STAFF, OVERALL COURSE
EXEPERIENCE.

Over the period of two weeks, we looked at over 20 home study traffic
schools, among them: trafficschool.com, internettrafficschool.com,
webtrafficschool.com, onlinetrafficschool.com,
onlinedrivingschool.com, nettrafficschool.com, idrivesafely.com,
gototrafficschool.com.

We set up student accounts with each and looked around giving each of
them a quick 10 possible points for each of the 4 criteria. After
this, we pooled our findings and came up with a TOP 5 school list:

http://www.internettrafficschool.com
http://www.thewebtrafficschool.com
http://www.onlinedrivingschool.com
http://www.netdriversed.com
http://www.nettrafficschool.com

Then we each took all five classes and added up each categoty and came
up with a final TOTAL score.

Number 5 was: NetDriversEd at http://www.netdriversed.com . The school
was good but a little hard to follow with not much humor. But the
website was simple, someone answered the phone when we called and
answered our emails. Also, the price was fair at 24.95. OVER ALL
SCO 39 POINTS

Number 4 was: OnlineDrivingSchool at
http://www.onlinedrivingschool.com . This was also good, it took 6
hours to do and it had some interesting features like games and
videos. The website was easy to use, the phone was answered when we
called and our emails. Their price was 19.95. OVER ALL SCO 41
POINTS

Our third best site was: NetTrafficSchool at
http://www.nettrafficschool.com . I liked their cool website and so
did the others. I had a little trouble registering but I am stupid at
these things. No one else did. Some humor, 5 hours from beginning to
end. I needed help registering and someone was there to help me and
answered my emails. NTS's price was 24.95 too. OVER ALL SCO 42
POINTS

The number 2 site was: TheWebTrafficSchool at
http://www.thewebtrafficschool.com . Easy to use links helped a lot. I
was attracted by their website and so did the others. Simple drop-down
menus. Quick page reloads. The course was interesting, with quizzes
and a final, about 6 hours total. I got a phone service when I called
but it was after 8:00 PM on the weekend so I wasn't surprised. School
price of 24.95. OVER ALL SCO 44 POINTS

And our overall favorite was INTERNET TRAFFIC SCHOOL at
http://www.internettrafficschool.com . ITS has the simplest site to
use of anyone BY FAR. Clean white with lots of text instructions. They
also had their FAQ's right up front along with their rules, history,
courts and instructions. Registration was a breeze for all of us too
because everything was explained up front clearly. Again they
explained what to expect BEFORE the course even started and told
people that they had 300,000 other students and were Better Business
Bureau Approved. All the schools should do this, but no others did.

The course itself was head and shoulders above any of the other
courses too. It was filled with humor, pictures, outside links, easy
quizzes and a final. They had very strict security, unlike many of the
other schools, and also emailed us a completion certificate when we
finished too. VERY COOL. IT took longer than all the other courses,
about 6 hours but it didn't seem that long. None of us needed to call
them but we did again to see what they would do and a very helpful
employee named Terry helped us and it turns out he was also the owner
and was working on a Sunday afternoon to boot.

In summary, we can recommend all of the 5 above courses but if we were
to ever need to go to an online home study traffic school for real, we
would go to InternetTrafficSchool. (Actually we heard they were trying
to buy all of the above 4 courses and incorporate them into their
Traffic School family sometime in 2003)

It was friendly, homey, funny and unique. School price was $14.95 for
us. OVERALL SCO 48
