Default 156 2.4jtd sportwagon performance upgrade?

Hi
My wife has a sportwagon jtd early 140bhp 2.4 and I wondered if anyone
knows if it is an easy job to increase the power as Alfa gradually
increased this engines power over the years?

I used to have a landrover discovery and had a larger intercooler
fitted which helped a lot! Is there one for the 156 available
anywhere?

Also the diesel tuning boxes advertised everywhere are they any good?
they sound too good to be true? Anybody fitted one or is the ECU
remap the way to go?

Thanks for any input and sorry if this has all been discussed before!

What you gain in power, you lose in flexibility.

Not Alfa, but I have a Passat 2.0TDI, with 140bhp and have driven the
same car with the 170bhp version of the same engine.

The 140bhp car is much better to drive - the 170bhp engine is too
'peaky' with a very narrow powerband in comparison.

You could get a chip to get similar power to later versions of the 2.4,
but Alfa made a lot more modifications than re-chipping in order to
maintain some level of flexibility.

Hi,
Thanks for the messages, I guess I will leave it alone, the car is not
bad but I thought it would be nice to gain a little.
