Default 94 turn signal problem

when i turn on the left signal, everything is correct. when using the right
signal, the stop doesn't appear to hold the stalk in the turn position
anymore.

is the a problem with the switch itself (requiring major dismantling of the
steering column from what it looks like in the service manual), or is there
a mechanical stop that provides this holding mechanism that maybe has worn
off?

thanks,
charlie

You pretty much have the answer, switch is a $60 item ACDelco number
1995974. Labor is a different story. Not a hard job but a bit tedious.
Replaced one last year and glad I finally did, just put it off because
of the work involved.

Good luck

thanks. the switch is $30 at corvettecentral.com + $5 for a couple of
springs that would be a good idea to replace once i get it all apart. the
service manual sure is sparse on the details on how to take it apart down to
the switch though.

does it require any special tools to take the column apart? is it all held
together, or is it liable to explode parts into my face because they're all
held in with numerous tiny springs?

i do notice that the air bag has to be safed and removed first.

there's also this post that i found that could explain it

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...al-switch.html

which claims it's actually the wiper switch

Good for you. looks like you're finding the answers you need. The CC
switch looks like Airtex or OEPro that sells for less than the $30
they want but it should work. Tools required are a puller and a tool
to depress the lock plate. If you get in there and find it is the
wiper switch they are a bit more expensive than the directional
switch, not a bad idea to replace both.

Air bags are always disabled to work on or around them.

well, i took off the airbag and promptly figured out i didn't want to dive
into the column, so took it to my regular mechanic. it was the switch that
was bad, and it took a couple hours to replace.

regards,
charlie

Was it the more expensive wiper switch or the directional switch? How
much did that set you back if you care to give out that figure?

it was the directional switch. now that i have a new one, i can say that
it's actually been partially broken since i purchased the car in 97. i just
never knew what it was supposed to feel like.

it was actually 2.5 hours at $90/hr + 45for the part.

i watched the mechanic and there's no way i could have done it in under 4
hours, and he needed a few tools that i didn't have either.
