Dumbest car commercial ever
Anyone saw the ad pushing the Toyota Avalon
*solely* on the basis on the 'advanced technology' of its rain-sensitive automatic wipers? Un****ing unbelievably stupid. Who the hell chooses a car on the strength of its windshield wiper system?! Why not talk instead about the very strong V6 the top of the line Avalon has? Crazy. |

I just assumed it was a "joke" ad, meant to make you remember the brand because it's funny. They really have automated wipers? As long as it's on topic, what the **** is up with the ad where the guy is detained at a border because of all the nooks in his car? I drive through immigration checkpoints enough that I don't want a car that advertises, "you'll have your time wasted for having a suspicious car." Who the hell would pay to air that ad in a border city? Dave |

But while we're talking about dumb car commercials, my vote goes to the Passat commercial where the two guys are driving through the desert and stop at the sushi bar. Good thing they have that cooled glove box to store their sushi. Talk about a useless feature and contrived scenario. If I live for another 100 years I don't think I'll ever see the need for a cooled glove box. -=- Tom |

It seems dead serious to me. Why would they mock their own product?! |

Accodring to edmunds.com, the 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited has "variable intermittent rain sensing wipers". Why would any manufacturer mock its own cars in an ad that tries to *sell* the car? It makes no sense. |

It should be eaten fresh to be good. I don't know of any car ads that tell the truth without some disclaimer. But the winner of the absurd car ad has got to be the "Trunk Monkey" series. Doug |

Excellent ads; probably the predominant reason the cars sold so well too. Now they make pathetic ads like this one where their steerable lights "save" a cyclist... http://www.vw.com/passat/photos_vids.html - click on "downhill racer" As a cyclist, I don't like the precident this sets; I'd rather take my chances in the dark than have traffic back up behind me and getting ****ed off at me. |

IMHO the Krauts should have stuck to doing what they do best, which is building simple cars with solid engineering. Their pushing "features" puts them on a par with American and Japanese companies and does little to convince me to pay the premium price for their products. This is, of course, disregarding that the current Jetta has blown up into an obscene, overweight caricature of the original Jetta... it's probably bigger than the original Passat. nate |

IMO, the Avalon is meant to be a 'classy' family sedan for 'serious' people. |
