very wide ratio gearbox
I have been search for an extremely wide ratio gearbox and have
tracked down the ZF S 5-42 - 5.72 first to .76 fifth. Is anyone familiar with this box or do you know of one with even more range. Thanks Smokeyone |

There is one of those in the truck in my driveway.
The were used in 88-96 or so Ford F series trucks with 7.5L gasoline engines. The Power stroke diesel engines used the same box but narrower ratios. That ratio is about as wide as it gets in automotive sized boxes. Heavy duty truck boxes may go wider. A 10 to 13 speed box designed for a dump truck might be wider. Allison makes some some wide ratio automatics for Heavy duty diesels. If you factor in the converter slip/lockup effect, they might be a wider ratio. Erich still looking eh?
