DIRTY OLD
CAR

I drive an old car - over forty years old. I drive it about 500 -
1000 miles a year.
We have a nearly new Camry for trips other then my short runs to
doctor, volunteer work and odd-and-ends.
This car brings back memories to a lot of people and trips back home
have often been delayed due to discussions about "my" marque or old
cars in general.
Pleasant conversations, obviously.

On day I was at a meeting about air pollution and one man and I were
having a quiet chat during the minor BS that goes on at such meetings.
He was in favor of removing old cars from the roads.
I asked him with what would they be replaced. "New cars, or maybe a
good used car, of course, if a car is really needed."
I asked how much pollution was involved in making a car and all the
components from raw materials, including the damage to the earth from
mining the raw materials.
He said, "I never even though of that."

Anyhow, he give me permission to continuing my old cars and said tht
every case should be investigated instead of having a blanket rule.

I hope that he passes his story on to other folks.

That's telling him! The most ecologically sound thing to do with an old car
is keep it running right and let it finish it's life. Even replacing it
with a hybrid would be less green.
