Default Are you an aggressive driver?

Seems like Delaware is cracking down on aggressive drivers. The News
Journal had a little quiz to test how arressive you are.

Are you always in a hurry?

Do you speed?

Do you drive how you want?

Do you skip using turn signals when you're changing lanes?

Do you lane-weave?

Tailgate when you're rushed?

Ever pass on the shoulder?

Do you ever start to pass a slow car, but drop back due to traffic?

Ever block a passing lane to keep someone from passing you?

Should the slow drivers just get out of your way?

Ever cuss, make faces or hand gestures at drivers who bother you?

Should other people do a better job of watching where you're going?

Make a lot of cell phone calls driving or use your horn every drive?

Ever use high beams to convey annoyance with another driver?

Do you take off quickly when the light turns green?

Ever roll through stop signs or squeeze through red lights?

Do you ignore lower speed limits in construction zones?

Do you double-park?

Are other people to blame for road problems or crashes you had?

Do you think you're an excellent driver -- but others aren't?

Police, highway and safety experts say that even one or two "yes"
answers can signal problems, especially with speeding. Five or 10
"yes" answers? Better think about behavior modification -- possibly
time-management or even anger counseling -- and using mass transit or
taxicabs. Fifteen to 20? Your kids aren't safe in your car with you
driving -- and neither is anyone on the road around you. Don't drive.
Get into counseling or an aggressive driving course before you kill
someone.

One or two? Better abolish the motor vehicle and licensing. I would
guess that 98-100% of US drivers have at least one "yes" answer.

BTW, if you think US drivers are overly aggressive, just spend some
time in the Middle East. One road trip in Saudi Arabia or Kuwait will
give you a lot more patience for drivers in America.

I'll answer with my observations of cops.

> Are you always in a hurry?

Cops are not always in hurry.

> Do you speed?

Cops almost always speed.

> Do you drive how you want?

Cops do drive however they want.

> Do you skip using turn signals when you're changing lanes?

Cops often skip turn signals.

> Do you lane-weave?

I've seen cops weave through I294 traffic like it was a C&D road test.
Then I would see them up the road parked in the median apparently running
radar for 'speeders'

> Tailgate when you're rushed?

I've seen cops tailgate others and tailgate me.

> Ever pass on the shoulder?

I've rutinely seen cops pass on the shoulder. In fact, one of my first
driving experiences with a cop was an IL state trooper that passed me on
the shoulder and purposely gunned it to spew gravel on my car because I
had been driving too slow for him as he tailgated me.

> Do you ever start to pass a slow car, but drop back due to traffic?

Most reasonable people would abort a pass when they saw it was unsafe,
even cops. Really stupid question.

> Ever block a passing lane to keep someone from passing you?

I've seen cops LLB, but a cop blocks up all traffic regardless of what
lane he's in.

> Should the slow drivers just get out of your way?

I've rutinely found cops think so, even if one is already in the right
lane. Keep right except to pass you know.

> Ever cuss, make faces or hand gestures at drivers who bother you?

Another infinite tolerance arguement, but generally cops have lights for
that function.

> Should other people do a better job of watching where you're going?

I've always had to watch out for what cops would do.

> Make a lot of cell phone calls driving or use your horn every drive?

It's funny, but I have been seeing cops talk on cellphones while driving
quite a bit recently.

> Ever use high beams to convey annoyance with another driver?

In IL, state troopers actually aim the headlamps of their cruisers up a
bit to block the lightbar in the glare. Dead give away it's a cop or taxi
btw. Don't know if that counts.

> Do you take off quickly when the light turns green?

Cops are generally kinda slothish with reactions to lights. But it's
generally a good idea to get going because the 10th person back probably
doesn't want to wait there for additional cycle.

> Ever roll through stop signs or squeeze through red lights?

I see cops do this all the time.

> Do you ignore lower speed limits in construction zones?

I haven't seen a cop obey one yet.

> Do you double-park?

Cops park anywhere they like, including double park.

> Are other people to blame for road problems or crashes you had?

the cop is never wrong, just ask jaybird.

> Do you think you're an excellent driver -- but others aren't?

Cops rutinely cite their special training, emergency vehicle status, and
other authority based arguments for why they are better or at least
priviledged drivers.

Looks like cops are in that last group.

Btw, I answered Yes to,

Do you speed? Yes, when it's the flow of traffic.

Should the slow drivers just get out of your way? Yes. I always get
out of the way when someone comes up behind me. Lowers my chances of
getting run over.

Should other people do a better job of watching where you're going?
Yes! Especially the moron who almost hit me Saturday night after
stopping at the stop sign but was totally oblivious to me coming and
then tried to pull out in front of me. Good thing my reflexes were
quick. I looked back in my rear view mirror and he bolted after that.
He knew he screwed up and was probably drunk.

Ever use high beams to convey annoyance with another driver? Yes, Only
when they are blinding me with their high beams.

Ever roll through stop signs or squeeze through red lights? Yes, I do
California stops at stop signs occasionally but I don't enter a street
blindly and I don't run red lights intentionally. Occasionally I'll
misjudge an yellow light an it will change right over me. I'm human,
what can I say

Do you ignore lower speed limits in construction zones?Yes but only
when traffic flow is speeding and the traffic is heavy. I'm not
getting run over by a tractor trailor or large SUV for any law.

Are other people to blame for road problems or crashes you had? I have
only had 3 accidents that involved other people and in all three, I
was not to blame. One was being rear ended while stopped behind a bus,
one was a car trying to cut across traffic that pulled out in front of
me and one was a rental car that suffered complete break failure. So
in a;; those cases, it wasn't anything I had any control over.

7 yes answers.

Over 90% of drivers in the U.S. would answer this one YES

99.99% or more of drivers in the U.S. would answer this one YES

> Do you drive how you want?

Silly question. How else are you going to drive?

>
> Do you skip using turn signals when you're changing lanes?

Many, probably most drivers in the U.S. do.

> Do you lane-weave?

Many, probably most drivers in the U.S. do.

> Tailgate when you're rushed?

Many, probably most drivers in the U.S. do.

> Ever pass on the shoulder?

I've seen it happen, but rarely.

> Do you ever start to pass a slow car, but drop back due to traffic?

No, I plow right into oncoming traffic head-on. What was the question
again?

> Ever block a passing lane to keep someone from passing you?

So common in the U.S. that we've coined a term for it, LLB

> Should the slow drivers just get out of your way?

Define slow. I see very few people driving less than 10-over the limit, at
any time, ever.

> Ever cuss, make faces or hand gestures at drivers who bother you?

EVER?!? Yes. Thankfully it doesn't happen often. But the way that
question is worded, I'd be suprised if more than 1% of drivers in the U.S.
could honestly answer it with a NO.

> Should other people do a better job of watching where you're going?

Holy ****, I hope not. Most people seem to have a problem with watching
where they themselves are going. Don't watch ME, just drive.

> Make a lot of cell phone calls driving or use your horn every drive?

Here's another one where probably 90% or more of drivers in the U.S. must
answer YES.

> Ever use high beams to convey annoyance with another driver?

What would be the point in that, exactly? So many people leave the high
beams on constantly, that if someone were trying to communicate something
with high beams, the message simply wouldn't get through.

> Do you take off quickly when the light turns green?

You do if you are among the vast majority of drivers in the U.S.

> Ever roll through stop signs or squeeze through red lights?

Me personally, almost never. From what I've observed, most drivers in the
U.S. do this, though.

> Do you ignore lower speed limits in construction zones?

Most drivers in the U.S. do. I've slowed down to the posted limit for
construction zones only to have long conga-lines of drivers pass me at twice
my present speed.

> Do you double-park?

Can't answer this one. Don't spend enough time in areas where
double-parking would be necessary.

> Are other people to blame for road problems or crashes you had?

Only had one crash. I was completely stopped at the time and someone
decided it would be a good idea to drive right into the back of me. So I
guess I'm guilty of blaming other people for my crashes. Damn, got to learn
to take more responsibility for being rear-ended.

> Do you think you're an excellent driver -- but others aren't?

Well my driving record (for several decades) in comparison to most seems to
support that conclusion.

Seems like most drivers in the U.S. would score about 10 or so on this test,
if they answered it honestly. Cops would score much higher, though.

Seems deliberately worded in a way to make you think that you are a worse
driver than you actually are. -Dave

I thought the #7 (drop-back) and next-to-last one (others caused crash)
ones were rigged. It's safer to drop back than to try to outrun the
oncoming traffic to complete the pass. I've had people back into me
while I was stopped and was rear-ended twice. If that makes ME the
aggressive driver, I'd better avoid Delaware at all costs.

You should have seen the Speed trap they had on I95 a little while
back. They had about 6 cars pulled over and another 6 troopers lined
up, ready and waiting, to nab another 6. My friend saw a simular trap
on another road. I also read a story recently that they had some kind
of budget shortfall for road repairs this year. Is it a coincidence? I
don't know.

Default Are you an aggressive driver?

Looks like the typical nonsensical 'driving' quiz, randomly intermixing
elements of safe, correct driving with dangerous driving habits
Mixing actual sloppy and poor driving habits such as:
> Do you skip using turn signals when you're changing lanes?
> Do you lane-weave?
> Ever block a passing lane to keep someone from passing you?
> Make a lot of cell phone calls driving or use your horn every drive?

-- (this one, sometimes you need to use your horn everyday)
> Tailgate when you're rushed? (this never works in reality anyway, as the sloth in front gets all agitated and usually does the 'stealthy slowdown')

With Silly statements such as
> Are you always in a hurry?
> Do you drive how you want? (what the heck does this mean anyway?)
> Do you think you're an excellent driver -- but others aren't?

With just plain good driving habits mistakely mislabeld
> Do you speed? (incredible dumb nonsense - the gap between safely exceeding an

underposted artifical limit by a small margin; against nearly spining
out at curves
because you're exceeding your vehicle's handling capabilities and the
limits of the road design/condition, is beyond monstrous - yet the
safety fools always lump them together and refuse to acknowledge
reality)
> Do you ever start to pass a slow car, but drop back due to traffic?
> Should the slow drivers just get out of your way?
> Should other people do a better job of watching where you're going?
> Do you take off quickly when the light turns green?

--- After you check to make sure the way is safe which can be done very
quickly), then yes, you better move your frickin' butt!

And this one:
> Are other people to blame for road problems or crashes you had?

---- Perhaps this is true for a given individual - are we to assume
this is some sort of conspiracy and that every one is at blame

> Police, highway and safety experts say that even one or two "yes"
> answers can signal problems, especially with speeding.

Police say a lot of things, apparently including 'You're Under arrest'
to a kid in Philadelphia simply recording their activities from his own
property using his cell phone - albeit the police were acting under a
recently past law preventing such survallience, which should quickly
lead to the law being found unconstitutional and Mayor Street giving
this kid a large check...
