that puff of smoke is from a rich start up condition and is NORMAL
but you know this jim

come on jim you should bve able to answer WHY ford calibrates its PCMs
to use a rich condition on start up

btw it is ez to put umbrella type seals on
simply hold up vavlve by using a compression tester hose hooked to an
airline
i would rate it asa 2
