Default Why do car-makers use so many bolts with allen heads?

I have some allen wrenches so i was able to get my brake calipers off
with no trouble, but why do they do it? Why not just use standard
bolts that will come out with a standard socket wrench set.? Are they
afraid the dummies will use a pair of pliars and round off the bolt
head and make things worse?

I think that allen heads lend themselves better to mass production.

I find that hard to believe and besides, we're talking pennies on a
$40,000 product.

You need to learn a little about the economics of mass production.

The actual parts of a $40,000 vehicle probably cost the manufacture
about $4,000 - $8,000.

Allen head bolts are generally stronger than the standard variety, so
they are use in brake calipers, where they are exposed to much higher
stress than would standard bolts.

You don't drive a 40K product, you drive a beater and use a flashlight
to see the dash at night...

BTW Alan is correct, cap screws and torx are for manufacturing purposes.
Much better for automation and manual air tools than hex head.

they come in the same grades as everything else. It's geometry of the
head and the tolerances that make them different and more desirable for
some applications.

The bean counters are very attentive to a savings of a penny on a
part. When you are producing millions of parts it adds up.
