I've been in gay German bars in Germany, watched anti-Nazi TV programs
in Germany, seen neo-fascist skin-heads in Germany, watched Sesame
Street on German television, had a women's-day decal put on my car
without my knowledge in Germany, watched my kids play with German kids
while talking with their parents in Germany. There are some as you
describe in Germany, just as there are in the States, but by and large,
we are very similar. The only person that I've ever known who is as
anti-German as you are was a Frenchman who left France shortly after
WWII, and had never returned. I presume that he tried to become
super-French to make up for this lack of cultural contact, but even the
French in France weren't as anti-German as he was.

We are a lot closer than you would be comfortable with, but that ain't a
bad thing.
