Oh, what's this? More leftist "I hate business" crap again?

Getting RID of the corporate income taxes, and ALL income taxes is how
we get the economy booming again. The income taxes make American
labor so expensive that business cannot pay good wages and they also
send all the jobs the can overseas. Its the income taxes...

>it has to do with the lack of access to health care, plus general

The general poverty is rising due to jobs going overseas, which is due
to the income taxes strangling US business. Get rid of 'em,
completely. Pass the Fair Tax. Get the economy going again, reduce
unemploment, reduce welfare, etc.

Oh geez; you're a flat tax convert. There's no point in discussing
anything with you if you're that delusional.

Fair Tax /= Flat Tax

The flat tax is still an income tax.

Yeah, you know everything. I learned that about you years ago.

I dunno. I'm of the opinion that if push comes to shove on the
country's finances, it's going to push us to tax reforms that we never
would consider before.

I personally favor taxes on consumption.. and not on earned wealth per
se (notice I say 'earned' wealth.. )

That would be a VAT in addition to current taxes. The massive Bush cut
for the rich is going away next year.

That, of course, will just make things even worse.

That too.

Consumption taxes get all those louts that are avoiding it now -
criminals, those hiding money overseas (just more criminals), rich
people just slowly spending down a pile without earning anything,
illegal aliens, the "shawdow economy" - they all get nailed when they
buy everything from a Big Mac to a big screen TV to a big SUV. Then
there's the tourists - 45 - 56 million of 'em a year, that pay too.
And the nonsense of only 47% of households paying the income tax would
be a thing of the past. Everyone's taxes would be lower (except those
that are weaseling out of paying it now) and the zero-tax
manufacturing environment would have factory-type jobs springing up
all over the place. Factory jobs are the ones where you can make
$30/hr, and drive the economy from the inside - by spending - 'cuz you
have something to spend. $13/hr "green" jobs don't have people buying
82" Mitsubishi rear-projection 3D ready big screen TV's - but factory
jobs do.

http://fairtax.org

This tax is a Sales tax *NOT* a flat tax.

What would be better is a *NEW ITEM* sales tax with an insert in the
amendment that for every 1% the tax is raised the government is forced
to cut across the board all spending by 3%

It _is_ a "New Item" sales tax. Used goods are not taxed. Services
are also taxed. Every US citizen with a social security number
receives a check for the amount of the poverty level for their living
situation. If you're making a poverty wage, that means you don't pay
a penny of Fair Tax because on all your spending up to the full amount
of your wages, the tax is paid for you by that gov't check.

>with an insert in the
>amendment that for every 1% the tax is raised the government is forced

They're going to have to cut spending even with the Fair Tax.

The Demographics RULE. That is that entitlements make up around 70% of
the total budget. All this yammering about cutting waste ...etc..
matters not in the bigger scheme of things.

it's Medicare and SS that matter (as well as Military spending).
Those are the big elephants in the room.

Should we be funding (subsidizing) SS and Medicare with a sales tax or
not or should Medicare and SS be self-funded - with payroll tax/
premiums matching expenses?

We spend twice as much per capita on HC and don't cover everyone - and
we're projected to bump that to even higher than twice as much as we
get older demographically.

That's what is driving the deficits... and they're not going to be
solved by a sales tax unless it's a pretty stiff one...
